Having Social Fear and Anxiety and Ways to Overcome It

Now everyone has a certain fear of being embarrassed, or at least a temptation to give in to this fear. But, if somehow this fear becomes chronic or too much, then you have anxiety and fear in terms of social relations. This can be damaging to your career, relationships and life in general if left unsolved.

So what are ways to overcome both social fear and anxiety?

1. You can try to socialize in the internet. Of course, this is still a far step from being socially at ease when you are with people. However, you can start this way. In this way, you can have ideas on what to talk about when you meet people you have been interacting with online. However, a caution must be remembered-you can't just trust anyone online. So it is better, to have contact with a trusted friend, and try to see if this friend knows friends of his or her who may be interested to help you with socializing-by socializing with you online as a start.

2. See if a support group exists within your community. You are not the only one who is having this fear and anxiety. Other people also experience this kind of thing. So, be confident that in a support group all of you can really understand each other. Within, the group identify persons whom you can relate to, especially with your interests and hobbies.

3. Seeing a psychologist can also be very helpful, (also a psychiatrist, therapist or psychotherapist). But credentials are important, of course. If a trusted friend or family member vouches for a certain professional, then you have to see if this friend or family member has signs that he or she has benefited from the kind of professional help he or she has been given. Of course, you can choose to try many therapists as you are able, and then choose the best one. But, a word of caution is important to remember: if in any way, the therapeutic process causes you to have negative experiences in an extended period of time, so then terminate the psychotherapy.

Now, after you have received help from any of the three options above, start with a small gathering. Invite at least three or four guests for a small lunch or dinner. This small start can be the beginning of a life free from social fear anxiety.
